This Growing Note belongs with Growing Our Way #18: Spring Has Arrived, where the first spring jobs start to take over the property again.
The job
The main job was not complicated: tidy the pathways, get the mower working through the grass, and start clearing the ordinary access areas that get away from us once the season changes.
The bigger pattern
Spring changes the pace of the homestead. Grass, weeds, pathways, garden edges, animals, and equipment all start asking for attention at once. The work becomes less about one big job and more about keeping the place moving before it gets ahead of us.
This is also the kind of work that lets the kids be nearby and involved. It is practical, visible, and part of the normal rhythm of the place. The lesson is not just mowing or refuelling. It is seeing that a property is maintained through small repeated jobs, not occasional big efforts.
What we are watching now
- Which paths need regular mowing or trimming through spring.
- Where the mower is useful and where hand tools still make more sense.
- How quickly the grass comes back after the first tidy-up.
- How to keep the kids included without turning every job into a production.
The goal is simple: keep improving access, keep the property manageable, and keep building the family habit of doing real things together.
